The fifth generation (5G) telecommunications technology standard for cellular networks that are connected to the internet. Compared to 4G’s one gigabit per second speed, 5G technology offers improved internet rates of up to 10 gigabits per second. Depending on the use case, that is ten to one hundred times faster. How does it function?
The ability of 5G, like earlier wireless technologies, to provide faster speeds is a result of the shorter radio waves that the nearby antenna produces. As a result, 5G’s range is considerably smaller than that of 4G wireless radio waves. To compensate for 5G’s limited range, more cell radios must be deployed all over the place. These are frequently seen in cities fixed on the tops of utility poles.
The ability to operate on up to three frequency bands, including low-band, medium-band, and mmWave, distinguishes 5G from earlier broadband cellular networks (millimeter wave; which is the fastest.) Because of these many bands, 5G service may now be found in more places, however depending on where you live, you could have to compromise on download speed, range (coverage), or service area.
